The birth story of Lord Rama is a celebrated tale in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, desiring heirs, performed the Putrakameshti Yajna under the guidance of Sage Rishyasringa. As a result, the gods blessed him with a divine nectar, which he distributed to his three queens: Kausalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. In due course, Queen Kausalya gave birth to Rama, Queen Kaikeyi to Bharata, and Queen Sumitra to the twins Lakshmana and Shatrughna, marking the arrival of these divine incarnations on Earth.
